Jane Austen Part 1

Sunday Mar 15, 2020
Maybe you love Jane Austen and the regency era of romance and commentary. The wit and humor that goes hand in hand with duty and honor.
Or perhaps you hate Jane Austen's body of work, finding it boring and girly. You're not even sure they're speaking English, let alone talking about anything that has to do with you, so what's the point?
I'll tell you the point. Jane Austen is one the most celebrated authors of all time, as good as Shakespeare, Edger Allen Poe, The guy that wrote the bible. Yeah I went there.
But it's not just the works of her career that make her interesting, its the crazy life she lived. True loves passed up, Engagements broken, sickness, feminism, sisterhood, a father's love for his daughter. Her story has it all. Even if you hate her work, you should give her life a chance. And if you do love her, then prepare to hear me (Tyler) try my hardest at finding her interesting.

Ghoul Gang, today we see just how immense the universe is, or rather how small we are. Something that every person should be subjected to at one point or another in their life. Today we talk about Douglas Adams. A man who seemingly skated through life on pure talent and connections, and at the end of it, came out having changed the world for the better. He’s known for writing the hugely popular Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, as well as the not so popular starship titanic.
A man so in love with Baths, that they rivaled his love of Nature and endangered animals. A man who said the worst thing that could have happened to him was to become a Novelist. He liked to sit at a table of people and write jokes, not at a lonely desk and write… well… more, jokes. Different jokes.

Shirley Jackson

Sunday Jan 19, 2020
Today’s episode is all about Shirley Jackson, a wonderful writer who wrote some of the most important and creepy Gothic work of the 20th century. She was smart and determined, and fought to prove herself as a writer in a time when women were expected to stay in the kitchen or go out and get a real job. When the world told her that she had to choose between motherhood, and following her passion, she stood on the line and held firm to both dreams. And on top of that, she wrote a really good stories!
You’ll hear us talk about one in particular, and Hannah gets pretty riled up, so prepare for that. I was so happy to be surprised by how much I enjoyed her writing, and I hope that you’ll take the time to not only hear out show, but hear the words of a woman with something to say.

Welcome to another episode of Between Lewis and Lovecraft, thank you so much for checking us out.
This show is all about learning more about the authors that have inspired us. And diving into the stories that they not only created, but lived as well. So join us as we explore the worlds that live just out of reach.
Today’s episode is about Myiamoto Musashi. One of the greatest, if not the most well known, samurai to ever live. And why is he held to such high esteem? It could be his sword fighting career that spanned over 60 fights, and years of actual battles. Or that he became a painter, sculpture and calligrapher. But most likely its the single little book he wrote at the end of his life called the Book of Five Rings. A book so prolific and inspired that 400 years later, its still used to understand not just Japanese sword fighting, but a way of life that is intentional, purposeful and mindful.
Join us as we dive into the life of an extraordinary man, and the inspiration for me to want to become, Ty Ty the Samurai.

Well folks, you’re in for a treat, for the next two nights you will be regaled and spooked by Britt Winchester. Famous from the podcast, The Snark Tank. one of only 5 truly perfect podcasts, the one you’re listening to right now being one of them, obviously.
Britt is a super fun, truly awesome person who I met through podcasting. She was so kind enough to read not just one story, but two! TWO! TWOOOOOOO!
I don’t know why I'm trying to make “two” scary… but, whatever. Enjoy The next couple days of christmas glee, as Britt reads to you, her ghost stories. Or rather, M.R. James’... stories, you get the point.
Go check out her show, Snark Tank at Snarktankpod.com and if you wanna really show your love, leave a voicemail for them at (316) 844-0262.
